A FAMOUS OPERA.

THE MAID OF THE MOUNTAINS. An event of unusal interest is announced in our advertising columns of to-day’s issue. The world’s record braking comic opera, “The Maid of the Mountains,” is announced to appear at the Strand Theatre on Thursday, September 14th. The production is said lo he the most complete theatrical offering ever submitted to local playgoers; a full company together with chorus and orchestra are features of the inilial tour. Special attention has been paid to the scenic and lighting effects, a’nd sev - eral novelties in stagecraft all go towards the success of the performance. “The Maid of. the Mountains’ position as the mqst popular Opera of the day cannot he questioned; it ran for four years at Daly’s Theatre, London, and it’s opening season in Australia created fresh records by runningsix months at the Theatre Royal, Melbourne, averaging nine performances a week. The critics, one. and all, voted it “the play of the century” on tlie occasion of its initial performance at Melbourne; its subsequent run fully justified this statement. The gifted young soprano, Miss Florence Lusk, plays the role of Teresa (the maid). This young lady filled Miss Gladys Moncrieff’s part in Australia during that young lady’s absence from the company through family bereavement. Another performer of note to appear in the cast is Mr Percy Clifton, who was leading comedian with George Donees’ Lomjon company before coming out to .1. G. Williamson Ltd. Seats can be reserved at The Rookery without extra charge.
