WHITE iHORSE COMPETITIONS. I FRANKLIN EXTEND ROTORUA. Rdtorula had a snatch win from Franklin at Remuera last Wednesday in play for the White Horse Cup. Rotorua militated: the attack and carried to ithe Franklin circle, where a corner brought relief. Mearns getting the leather away with a good reverse stroke, setting Ithe Franklin forwards in motion. Rotorua, however retuimed itb the attack and a sound right-wind movement siaw Cleat in a pretlty piece of solo work pass the opposing halves and! futir backs arid score 'the first goal l in fine style, though from an awkward position . Franklin now began iai counter demonstration, which unfortunately broke on the s'tfubborn resistance of the Ro;torua defenders. After some rapid exchanges and hard hiifltiing by the respective rearguard Franklin settled down to more determined work but a, breach inf erruphed them, and the others took advantage of the chance to resume' the offensive- But again the Franklin backs rose !fo the occasion and cleared to neutral territory. As it happened the relief was only temporary and a tense momeni: saw the Rotoruans ping-ponging the goal-mouth in. a most persistent, manner, which proved somewhat disconcerting to tjhe goalie and his supporters Mellwrpith finally nesting at close range. A con. tin.uance of the Rotorua attack brought no further success and. Franklin advanced once more. Rojtorula still put sting into their attacks at: the commencement of the second ha’sVf, hut they were jus't) as stoutly resisted by the Franklin players. In an evident determination to open their account the Franklin team moved forward in a combined aitftfe.ck tha ; : imperilled the Rotorua goal. The .defenders were temporarily able to get it clear, hut; Franklin’s next atthek was successful and a well.deserved score was shot by Williams. Now the question was whether they could equal before the end and 'they were more than once within close range of the goaYmouth, ithe others, however, playing with a care land decision that prevented any turtjher seoiing and the/ game ended : Rotorua 2, Franklin 1.
