MANUREWA TOWN BOARD.
ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Manurewa Town Board was held on Monday when there were present! Messrs C. H. Lupton, G. W. T. Cox, Geo. Smith, the Clerk (Mr H. Kay) and the Foreman (Mr W. Amiss). In the absence of the chairman, the deputy-chairman (Mr C. H. Lupton) presided. Drainage Nuisance. Messrs G. A. Robehtjpon and K. O. Goodwin both wrolfe drawing attention to a nuisance caused by a drain which carried the 1 dtorm water from Hill and! Great South Ronds, and requested the Board to take steps to have the water turned elsewhere.--Health Officer to inspect. Hospital Levy. The Auckland Hospital Board reminded the Board that the first quarter’s contributions tvas now due and payable. —To be paid. Loan. The Public Trus.t Office* Wellington advised that the Board’s application for a loan of £2OOO for the purpose of purchasing a public park had received careful, consideration, but could not be entertained. —Received. Waferfable. Mr A. GiiMard. jun.„ Mahia Road, wrojte staiting that the wavertable across the road opposite, his property was blocked up. He urged that 5t be attended tjh, as. the water was running over the mqftal; scouring it out.—The foreman reported that this work had been attended to. Russell Road. The Minisiler of Public Works. Hon. J G. Cpat.es,. wrote concerning the position of Russell Road, stating that proposal's forth© expenditure of £IOO votad in 1920 for work on Russell Road were submitted to the Public Works Department on 13th May, 1921. and on the 19f.'h the Town Board was 'advised /that the proposals were satisfactory, but in view’ of the financial ' conditions obtaining at the time iit was regretted the expenditure of the Government- grant; could noji be authorised. Tt appeared to him that the work was put in hand before) even the proposals were submitted* and was actually completed some 'time in June. As ith.e Board carried out yhe work, net only without, the He. part.ment’s authority,- but also in spite of advice Thrill ‘the Governmentcontribution was not forthcoming, it was assumed Ithat the Board was prepared (take 'the responsibility for Its aatjion and consequently the dtem was deleted on last yeiar’s estimates. He added tha!t There were, therefore, no funds available from which contributions to the cost of the work could he m.ado, and he regretted he was unable '-tip give the Board’s application consideration.
