PAKURANGA HUNT CLUB.
j MEET AT KELLY'S CORNER. A CHASE OF FOUR MILES. PUSS GETS AWAY AT LAST ffhe meet of the Pakuranga Hunt Club, on Saturday, July 22nd was held at Kelly’s Corner, East Tamaki. Hounds weire thrown off on Mr Swaffield’s farm and taken through to Mr Waters’ property, where thev were soon, in full cry * * > and puss led them a merry dance through Mr Waters’ across the road and into Mr - Leighton’s, con. tinning on with the pack in hot pursuit, iqjto Mr Gordon Gillard's, and was still: going strong when the fence was passed separating Mr Gillasrd’s property from Mr Preston’s. Then the quarry fed the fielid through a number of properties in succession* including Messrs Wyman’s, when the hounds were checked and the mastejr called a hal|t. It was a grefit run and the scent, was splendid, the country! was varied, and enough jumping was provided to satisfy the hardest riders. So all. included iv was a firstrdh.ss run, andj the distance covered was about four miles. In fact, what was the most, surprising evenltl was that puss managed to get away after such a trying time and hand chase. Not the Ueastj of the) (factors that contHbuted to the success of the afternoon’, s sport was the splendid weather, and as the ground was in first class condition those, who followed the run all the way were unanimously of opinion it Juft ht< was as fast as a steeplechase. The pack as on other special! occasions this season were in the punk of con|tiition; and it is, no Exaggeration to say that *hey have provided really excellent runs for .the past month. Saturday’s chase was across a stretch of county, where,, as all the old followers know some of the best runs of the Cliub have been obtained 1 , There were altogether about seventy followers present and. a numbek of the riders had spills during the fun. One big ditch especially accounted for two or three of thf empty saddles! and the spirits of the unlucky ones were so damped by their splash into the cold water that if is safe to figure a guess thaf they would have preferred, to have landed on terra firma. However the mishaps were all of a- miniolr nature 'and! scarcely detracted from the enjoyment of the afternoon.
