FRANKLIN RUGBY UNEON. PUKEKOHE 17 V. HAMILTON 16 The Pukekohe Rugby Sub. Un.on’s representative team journeyed to Hamilton on Saturday, June 1/th, ana defeated a Ramfcton • team by 17 points., The following is a clipping from the Waikato Times giving a description of the game. The teams were : Pukekohe: Wilkinson, Noble, Sizemore, Adams,, Udy. Lewis, Blake,, Reynolds, Dazeley, W, Adams, Pleydelb Wilson, Perry,, B'ikey (rover).
Hamilton : Hunt, Bayly* Gibson, Beaver, Peach, G. Hinton, S. Hinton, Osborne, Hopa, Christie, Monagetti, Timms, Cooper, Boa-;dman, Gilmour (rover).
Peach captained the Hamilton team anal Bilkey tne visitors. Hamilton opened from the south with the sun in their’eyes. When the! home side were attacking and having all the best of matters, Gv Hinton made an error in kicking over-hard and giving the defenders the opportunity of forcing. While Hamilton were keeping up the pressure, added materially by defective handling of the visiting backs,, Monagetti had: an ineffectual, shot at goal, A l'jttie later on Peack cross-kicked over to the west* and Bayly gathering in from a fortunate bounce bad; no difficulty in scoring. Monagetti’s shot failed. Hamilton 3 Pukekohe 0 The home 'team kept up (the attack over the spelfi* but the standard of football was poor. Pukekohe attacked on opening the second quarter, bu-t Hunt, the home full back, defended we Ik Eventually they were rewarded by W t., Adams goaling from a penalty shot. Pukekohe 3 Hamilton .. 3 Hamilton very quickly forged ahead. Gibson made a dash along the western touch* from half way,, and the ball, travelled over to the east, the backs and: several forwards takingpart in the movement. Eventually Bayly received and had no difficulty in -scoring as the finishing part to a nice effort. Monagetti missed the goak Hamilton t> l Pukekohe 3 From pH ay at the half way Pukekohe scored a neat and well-deserved try. The centre, Sizemorq, broke through and gathered from the ruck, running strongly along the western touch. When blocked he sent on to Udy, who supported well, and the latter ran over some yards of intervening space to get round behind the goal'. Adams added the extra points. Pukekohe 8 Hamilton 6 In go’pg to a by Bayly, /a visiting- back 1 got off-side a.t the goaili front. Monagettifs shot at goal rebounded from the defenders. Half time came without alteration. The game had: not been long in motion before the visitors were over. They found the home backs failing to go to their man. In the advancing effort the ball! was l)f>slt once, but Sizemore came into the picture again and ran across to secure a try that the merit of attack warranted. Adams’ shot failed. Pukekohe 11 Hamilton 6 Pukekohe were not long in forgingfurther ahead. Hunt, the home fuili back,, was bustled tat the half-way, and the visitors bad possession with a clear field!. ;Fhe advance was carried on, and the bal’d, was sent out finally to Noble., who scored unopposed. Adams’ shot failed. Pukekohe 14 Hamilton 6 Peach cut through nicely for the home team on the resumption of play, but the supporting efforts were too undecisive, and Pukekohe easily turned them off. Boarclman opened out pray above the visitors’ 25 to the werft, but Bavly knocked on and a rosy chance was lost. For the final quarter Hamilton had the sun at theft- backs. Lewis was penalised for holding on to the; ball, but the kick did not’ avail anything material to the home side. As the result of a kick and quick follow up by Hunt, the home side golt in an adtacking position. Play swung from west to east across the visitors’ points*, where Cooper threw out and Hinton dashed straight across. Peach missed an easy shot. Hamilton 9 Pukekohe 14 From a line out at the half way,, C. Hinton received from Timms, but
the five-eighth erred by running into the pack. With the hr I '' loose, the found Hunt failing- to stem. Further loose play saw the danger zone for Hamilton being approached, and finally Dazeley pounced on -the (leather as it went over 'the chalf mark to the nodtlywest corner. Adams made a good but unsuccessful effort to convert. Pukekohe 17 Hamilton 9 Peach went through the opposition for some yards yards, but 'there was no support to the home five-eigth. Pukekohe shortly assumed command, Lewis making a good dash, but his pass out was missed. Hamilton got out of a hot corner, and then- Peach was primarily instrumental in an advance 'along west. He came into Ithe Issue again above the 25 to the west, and foced his way across. Gibson’s shot hit the bar and rebounded. Hamilton 12 Pukekohe 17 Gibson and Bayly were next seen in a fine dual movement along the eastern touch, from which the former alt but scored. A scrum was ordered, and then the ball swung out to the goal} front where Hunt, the home full back, secured and dropped a goal. Within the next minute time was called with the scores : Pukekohe 17 Hamilton 16 Mr T. French was referee.
