DISTRICT NEWS.
mAUKU. The annual meeting of parishioners of St, Bride’s Church was held in the church op Friday evening last, the Vicar (Rev. J. C. Fussed) presiding. Owing to the meeting not being held on a moonlight night, there was a very small attendance. It was decided to commence the renovation work in rgarcl to repairs to the steeple and leakages at once, the fund for same being some £52, but almost as much again will be required before this 1 historical did building can be put in good order. The report and balance sheet, showing a small credit balance, were read and adopted, dhe Vicar appointed Mr T. B. Bailey vicar’s warden, and Mr E. Rowe was unanimously reelected people’s warden. The following vestry was elected : Messrs C. A. Crisep, A. Cornthwaite, F. A. Cutfield, J. F. Davies, W. F. Davies, R. Hagwood, S. Rowe, K. Wright and A. E. Wright stresaurer). The election of secretary was held over until next meeting.
The Railway Department has now taken over the Paerata«Wuiaku line, and the exodus of Public Works material, buildings, camps and men, has given the Mamku station yard quite a deserted look so far as life is concerned, hut the number of trucks of timber, bricks and miscellaneous goods on the siding amply makes up the appearance. Although the train runs on Tuesday’s and Fridays, the amorant of goods coming along this line necessitates the train running a double trip. This alone is surely evidence enough that a more frequent service is warranted.
