TOWN BOARD MEETING.

At a meeting of the Town Board there were present : Messrs S. Evans (chairman), T. D. Campbell, P. JParker, D. Weir, J. Beams, J R. Wilson, and the clerk (Mr A. L. Cooper). Building Inspector. Mr W. Lincoln was appointed building inspector temporarily. ft oxious Weeds. Notices are being served on property owners to clear theS'r land of noxious wee as.

Averill Street. Owing to the wet weather Averill Stree.t has got into a deplorable state and representations have been made to the Town Board members on the matter of having it attended to. The Board has decided to replace the decked crossing which though not a very satisfactory way of overcoming the trouble, will assist ;in obviating the present unsatisfactory state of the road. Stray Dogs. Complaints have been received with reference to the number of stray dogs about the streets. —It has been decided to take drastic steps and to have the stray ones destroyed. SETTLEMENT ROAD, PAPAKURA. DELAY IN METALLING. BARRIERS BROKEN DOWN. There has been considerable trouble over Settlement Road with reference to the breaking down of barriers. The road in question is at present undergoing reformation and metalling, .and is closed to all traffic. Temporary barriers were erected, but these were ignored, pulled aside and people used the road as if if was open to traffic. However, the Town Board, determined to have the road closed until the work was completed, had a five-wired fence erected, and notices erected, diverting traffic along other roads. However, everything went well until Sunday morning last, when, we understand, some person or persons, determined to use the load, cut the wires, and drove a motor car through the barrier, thereby ignoring, as it were, the efforts of the Town Board to preserve the formation work until the road was metalled.

Owing to the irregular supply of metal from the Morningside quarries, the progress of the metalling work has been retarded, and with a view of overcoming the delay that has been occasioned, the clerk visited the Morningside quarries with a view of having a regular supply of metal forwarded, in compliance with a promise made when the Town Board’s order for metal was placed. The metalling work has been hung up for some time owing to the irregular supply of metal, but it must be remembered the Town Board is not altogether to blame for this. We understand that more will be heard of the matter, as the Board is offering a reward of £5 for information Heading to Hie conviction of the offender.
