EAST TAMAKI DAIRY CO.
WILL SftISTAL BUTTER PLAINT.
DECISION OF SHAREHOLDERS
On Wednesday evening, the 26th of April, a general meeting of suppliers of the East Tamaki Co-Opera-tive Dairy Company, Limited, was held in the local public hall to discuss extensions for the coming season. In his opening address, Hhe chairman (Mr F. H. Leonard) outlined the success of the company’s first year of working. The company’s butter, be said, bad been under a very advantageous contract in Auckland, but this arrangement would not be suitable for next season. This method of handling the company’s product had served its purpose and the time had now come when the company must make arrangements to finish its own product at the factory. Fortunately, continued the chairman, the company was in a sound financial position,, and this had enabled the directors to recommend immediate extensions, and therefore they had carefully gone into the question of the respective merits of butter and cheese plants. The matter had been discussed very fully by the directors, but they preferred simply to lay the two proposals before ’the company’s shareholders and ask them to vote for the proposal which they preferred.
The rival clbims of butter and
cheese were then freely discussed, and finally the question, on being pur ito the meeting, was carried, an overwhelming majority declaring in favour of a bultter factory. The company will, therefore he in a position to handle home separated cream frbrn suppliers at a distance, and they intend to offer all ‘the facilities of their up-to-dafte plant, their proximity to the Auckland market, and economical management in handling next season’s milk and cream.
Several speakers referred ito the recent cutting of the price of hutter on the local market, and the following resolution was passed :—-“That this meeting of the East Tamaki CoOperative Dairy Company, Limited, unanimously approves of (the policy of the Opotiki Dairy Association in regard to their action, during the recent cutting of the price of butter, in refusing' ito drop their price to that of the New Zealand Co-Opera-tive Dairy Company, Limited, when the parity of the London price justified a higher figure.”
