DISTRICT NEWS.
MAUKU. The Mauku Tennis Club held a concert and dance in the schoolroom on Friday evening' last, and despite the inclement weather, there was a large attendance, no doubt attracted by the fact that a one-act farce, entitled “Whitebait at the Waverly” was to be staged If this was so, then I am sure the audience was not disappointed, as the farce was a huge success in every way. The performers were Misses Madill and E. Outfield, Messrs V. Wright, W. Davies and L. Wilson. It reflects the greatest credit on each of the performers, who all' played their parts splendidly. A varied programme of musical and vocal items by visiting and local talent preceded the farce, and judging by the encores demanded this part was also appreciated. The farce will be re-pro-duced in the Glenbrook Hall in the near future, the date of which will be advertised, and anyone wishing to hear our local artists in “Whitebait at the Waverly” should make a point of attending.
The Maukuf Victory Hall is now well under way, and it is hoped to have it finished by the end of May. Arrangements for the opening ceremony are in handy and; it is expected that tllis will eventuate early in June. The hall will fill a ong-ffelt want in the district, and your correspondent, who took ithe opportunity of inspecting the building a few days ago, has no hesitation in saying that when finished, Mauku will possess one of the finest and most up-to-date structures of ifcs kind in! the Franklin County.
