LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The following trophies were presented to the various holders at the School Fair in Papakura ladt Saturday Jones Memorial Cup, to Mr A. Fahey (also the gold medal awarded the winner) ; the Claud Rountree Cup to Master R. Spragg, for Papakura Schooll ; the Farmers’ Union Cup to Master H. Johnstone (holder for one year) ; and a gold medal to Master W. Smith, the winner of the school championship. Rev.. Griffin, the newly-appointed Methodist minister, has taken up his residence in the parsonage here. He is said |to be a keen sport in athletics, and should prove an acquisition to the district. The local tennis tournament was brought to a conclusion last week, when Mrs Mclnnes won the final of jthe handicap singles against Miss Cooper,, anad Mr Jack Elliott defeated Mr H. Civil after a very even contest. The ladies’ doubles was won by the Misses Wilson, the men’s by the Messrs Henderson, and 'the combined by Miss Wilson and J.. Elliott. The various trophies will be presented at a wind-up function in the near fujture.
The golf links are being put into good order. The season opens on the 29th inst, when a large atteidance is expected.
