RECORD DAIRY SEASON.

LARGE Ift GREASE iN BUTTER,

PREVIOUS OUTPUT EXCEEDED AT PUKEKOHE FACTORY. t

The prediction that 'was made eaptv i n the dairying season that the sea's on would be a record one for Pukekohe in point of production is being borije out by results. The quantity of butter manufactured at the Pukekohe factory to date already exceeds the output of any previous season, and with an abundance of feed still showing in most districts, the ,total should show a very large increase over previous figures. Butter manufactured at the factory to date totals 1867 tons, as compared with 1569 tons for the corresponding period last .year. The reason of the increase is. no doubt due to the fact that the price paid for butter-fat last year was an inducement to dairymen, to ''give greater attention "to and to increase their herds, - but unfortunately the market fell flat and k very low price was obtained.. . However., there appears to be an improvement in sight, and the prospects for the winter appear brighter.. The factory staff has been kept exceptionally busy. During hast week the average daily output amounted to S 'tons 2 cwt 15%1b5, as against 5 tonS 2 qrs 271bs for thej corresponding period last year.

There has been no increase in the area from which the suppliers hath excepting that feil.ver.dale has been

included. The cream from this centre would no.t make a difference of much over a quarter daily, while this time last year when the bottom fell

out of the cheese market, cream was received from Aka Aka and East Tamaki districts. This yea„ the factories in these centres are making cheese, but in spite of this the increase at the present time represents almost 3 tons daily.
