ANTS AND PANTS.
STORY OF A fYIASM WHO LOST TROUSERS. * A comedy of an unsuspecting man, a pair of pants, and a crowd of ants is reported from Cheshire. A Manchester couple (writes a correspondent) had been out to Alderley Edge for the day and had been admiring the fine views, when the young gentleman found to his dismay that he had been sitting on an ants nest, and was literally alive with the insects. He confided the fact to his compaaion, and it was) agreed to go home. They proceeded uncomfortably to the railway station, and the antics of the victim to get rid of his undesirable companions caused endless amusement to passers-by. The young couple boarded a Manchester train, and ,unable to withstand the onslaught of the hundreds of itching ants, fhe man retired to undress. i AN EXPRESS TRICK. When the train arrived; at Manchester the young lady waited in vain for her fiancee. Then timidly she; knocked at the door and asked i'f anything was wrong. To her astonishment a note was pushed under the door making the announcement that he had been shaking his clothing through the window when a passing train took his trousers from his hands. He asked her to procure a pair. Inquiries amongst railway porters failed to find any spare garments, and, finally, the young lady hired a a taxi, and, visiting a tailor’s purchased a pair.
She had a shock at London Road Station when she found that the train had been shunted back to Longsight. Thence she travelled and released her lover. ,
