TUESDAY, MARCH 7, 1922. ONEWHERO-TUAKAU BRIDGE.

“We nothing extenuate, nor aught set down in malice.”

The main connecting link between Tuakau ancl a vast amount of important territory on the southern side of the Waikato River. —}the One whero-Tuakau bridge, is in danger of becoming useless.. This large wooden structure, controlled, we understand, by 'the Raglan and the FraknTin County Councils— 4s the main highway for all stock brought to the ; ail way from the back couni try, and a very serious position would i arise if tills means of access were cut off from the settlers. When it is realised that 'this bridge is the only oulet fo • ail that country be- ; twaen dm Murray and the country

right C g UXlth Waikato Head ' . VVI op readily understood that this b _ LI , . . ,ridge is the most important in the highway from Tuakau ,<t\ the railway to a great deal of . valuable country. To-day this struc- | tur’e, on which so much depends, bears the legend, “This bridge is unsafe, and is crossed ct usre's risk-” Reports coming in stake that over six months ago a quantity of hardwood was procured for repairs, and, alas, this hardwood is lying; 'there today. We would, therefore, draw the attention of the responsible authorities to the very grave position vh.it has arisen and in interests of both sides of the river,, urge that some immediate steps he taken to put the bridge in a sound s.tate of repair. While on this subject, there is another small bridge on the Tuakau side of the river which is in a very bad state. One side has been knocked off and has not been replaced. Users of this smaller bridge complain about its precarious state, and provision should, also be made fo” its renovation at a very early date.
