Parents of children who are desirous of attending the Pukekohe High School should communicate promptly with the Director, who has several accommodation vacancies at present.
The Princess Maiy Shilling Gift Fund at the Borough Council Office is languishing, and closes next Tuesday. Will the ladies of ; the town kindly make their donations immediately to the Town Clerk.
The Mayor (Mr J Routly) stated at Monday night’s Council meeting that the poice would look after the regulation of the traffic in the Pukekohe streets. This was received with satisfaction by the Council, and should result in much better control of vehicular traffic in the town.
It was rumoured during the week that a consignment of the New Zealand Co-op. Dairy Co’s butter piacecl on ithe London market two or three days ago has reached the satisfactory figure of 170 s per cwt. So far we have no confirmation of the rumour, which is supposed to have emanated from a well-informed qvar,ter. There are many dairymen and others in this district who hope the rumour, is well founded.—Exchange.
This week’s issue of the Sporting and Dramatic Review is of a commendably high standard, and the illustrations should appeal to all sections. Prominence is gven to the South African athlets’ visit to Auckland, a fine series of snapshots marking the event. The Australian swimming championships in Sydney are also the subject of a splendid photographic display, and on the racing side are pictures representative of the recent race meetings at Wellington, Takapuna, and Pukekohe. The stage is covered in an attractive se,t of photographs.
Messrs Dynes Fulton, W. Shaw and J. Q. Ward met the suppliers of the Waiau Pa and surrounding district at the Waiau Pa Hall on Wednesday evening. Mr Shaw apologised for the absence of Mrt Sinclair, who had to •pturn to Hamilton on urgent business.. The position of the butter market and matters in connection with the managment of affairs of the company, and ,the figures relative to the cream cartage wire fully explained. Numerous questions concerning the advance payments, loans to suppliers, and management economies, etc., were satisfactorily answered, and at the conclusion, a hearty vote of thanks to the directors and. management .for the full and lucid address was carried by acclamation.
The text of the Municipal Corporations Amendment Act has just come to hand.. Under section 40 or the Municipal Corporations Act, 1920, there was a disqualification clause for all councillors who were directors of firms or combines transacting business ever £5 for one contract, of £lO per year with the Council concerned. But the amended Act of last session provides for the disqualification of the general manager only of public company which transacts business with the Council concerned in respect of a contract which exceeds £5 in the case of a single contract or £lO altogether in any financial year. Directors of companies are now qualified to be elected and act as Borough Councillors under the Act.
