MERGER.

An accident that might have been attended with serious conseauences was averted last Sunday at Mercer. One of our well-respected residents, Mr Michael Walsh, and his party, had the misforune to be in the launch when, for some unexplicable reason, it turned turtle, leaving the occupants struggling in the waiter. The Messrs Roose Bros, promptly rowed to the scene, and rescued the party none the worse off for their sudden immersion. Friday evening last the Princess “Puea Herangi” and party held an entertainment in the Kuni Kuni RallAfj The programme consisted of native Iclances, interspersed with songs. (There was a good attendance of pakeha folk as well as Maori.! The great/ applause that greeted each item'' showed the appreciation of the audi- ; ence. A tennis match will be played at Pokeno. This is a step in the right direction, as we have quite a number of young players who will get the opportunity of trying themselves out. The team will be picked from the following Messrs Exiting, Seilwood, Baxter, Shoebridge, Symonds, Lee, Mucpherson, Mesdames Kenendy and Horan, Misses Roose, B. Walsh, Collins. Given a fine day the match promises to be a very exditing one., PERSONAL. Mr Edwards has returned from his vacation. Miss Latta has returned from her vacation, and taken up her duties at the school. 1 Miss Walsh has returned from her holiday, much improved in health.
