PAPAKURA CASEIN FAC. TORY.
THE DRAINAGE QUESTION. “NO OBNOXIOUS SMELL NOTICEABLE.” The Assistant Medical Officer of Health, Dr A. D. S. Whyte, has written to the Papakura Town Board regarding the Casein Factory drainage as follows : “I have to acknowedge receipt of your letter of the 25th insjt re the above. On the occasion of my visit as on various other occasions when a Departmental officer has visited the drain, there was no obnoxious smell noticeable. Pollution, however, is shown by the growth on the vegetation.” “I took up the matter with the Dairy Company, who advise that my suggestion that the effluent be piped to tidal waters, if insisted on, would result in the closure of the factory and grea<t hardship to the suppliers.' Professor Nielson, who designed the present drainage system, is confident that any nuisance can be obviated, and the company superintendent is arranging for a conference as soon as the Professor arrives from Sydney.” The above letter will be before |tbe Town Board on February 13th, for consideration.
