TENNIS.
THE HILL CLUB. Owing to the wet weather experienced on Saturday, the opening of the Hill Club’s tennis courts was postponed utnil! Anniversary holiday. The weather looked a bit doubtful at first, but a large crowd! attended, and were rewarded with a lovely evening.. The president of the club ! (Mr Scadden) in a short speech, touched on the benefits of the court to the Hill people, and announced the intention of the club to present Mr and Mrs T, Pollock, jun., with a new tennis racquet, suitably inscribed, for the 4 way in which they had assisted in the promotion of the club, Mr Pollock having presented the land for the courts. Mrs Scadden made the presentation.. Mr and Mrs T. Pollock, sen., hit the first ball over the nets and declared the courts open. Play then commenced and continued uptil late in the evening. Most of the members are beginners, but quite a few “Tildens to be” were The courts are not in first-class order yet, but if the enthusiasm so far displayed continues more will he heard of the Hill Club.
