A HANDSOME TROPHY.
THE J. 0. JONES CUP. TO-MORROW’S RACES. The handsome 25 guiens solid silver cup, donated to the Franklin Racing Club by Mr J. D. Jones, the well-known sportman of Remuera, to be presented to the owner of the winner of the Franklin Cup, the chief event on the Franklin Racing Club’s programme, which will be decided tomorrow, is at present on view in Messrs Kennedy and Daysh’s shop window. A racing club is a distinct acquisition to a district, and is an organisation that requires support. Mr Jones realises jthis, hence his generosity in donating the valuable cup., with the object of assisting the.club. which is only in its infancy. The Franklin Club has had a very “hard row to hoe” during the last two years, and the present is the time when it requires all the support the public can give it. This necessary support can be given in a small but appreciative way by attending the second annual race meeting |to-monrow. Present indications point to the weather being fine, and given a fine day there should be a great crowd at the races. The cup stands ever a foot high, and is of a very nice design. It can be seen as seated above. The Prime Minister was to have been present, accompanied by members of Parliament, but owing to the pressure of Parliamentary duties he and his fellow members have written regretting their inability to attend. The donor of the cup, Mr Jones, recentlv lost his wife, who died on January 31st. At a meeting of the n-'-ponfivp last night, a vote of sympathy with him in his sad bereavement w'as carried in silence.. The same is to be conveyed to him by the secretary.
