TUESDAY, JANUARY 10, 1922. PAPAKURA.
“We nothing extenuate, nor aught set down in malice.”
The town of Papakura has recently made great strides as a business centre and residential quarter. A live Town Board has set the pace;, and improvements have been effected recently which mark this centre as one of the places with a pronounced future. The alterations in the railway station and yards, the fine concrete overhead bridges, the improved road foundations and steady increase in number of business premises are sufficient evidence to warrant the above statement.
In following its policy of progression as a country newspaper, the “Times” is endeavouring to cater more perfectly for Papakura leaders, and to that end will, as fat as is possible, print a Papakura and Manurewa edition. Residents are urged, therefore, to supply news items dealing with their district. These can be sent by post or over the telephone. The utmost co-operation is needed for the success of the venture. - WIANUREWA. The claim that this is the garden suburb of Auckland seems to be justified by Manurewa. A progressive Town Board has pursued a wideawake policy for some time, and today Manurewa can boast fine streets, fine residences, handsome business premises, including a very fine picture theatre and new Post Office. Auckland merchants, tired of city home life, are continually seeking out and settling at Manurewa. 1
The “Times” reports the meetings of the Manurewa Town Board, and other local happenings, and so under its new policy Manurewa will receive, with Papakura, a special page. About the end of this month it is hoped to make the “Times” a permanent ten or twelve-page newspaper, and in that event Manurewa and Papakura will each have a page devoted to their own advertising and news. Again we ask that as many new subscribers from these districts as possible come in and also that news items will be sent along in a spirit of co-operation.
