On Saturday, December 10th, Mr A. C. B, Baigent,, sawmiller, of Patumahoe, met with a painful accident. It appears that he was working at the mill and. his left hand became entangled fin some belting. The hand! was badly torn about and crushed, the arm being broken and severely injured under the arm pit. He was attended by Dr CgmpbellSmith, and removed to Burwood Private Hospital, Pukekohe, where he is progressing as well as can be expected.

At the sitting of the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday last, before Mr E. W. Burton, S.M., Mrs Emily Moreland, of Auckland, claimed from H. J. Rollinson of Pukekohe, possession of a certain tenement, being rooms and premises situated in West Street, Pukekohe, and known as O’Connor’s buildings. It was claimed by plaintiff that the tenancy had been determined liy a legal notice to quit. After hearing evidence the Magistrate gave judgment for plaintiff, defendant being ordered to quit on February 12th, 1922. Mr W. I • Hopkins appeared for plaintiff and Mr H. G. R. Mason for defendant.

The question of the Pukekohe Borough Council taking steps to acquire that strip of land on the town side of the reservoir on Doctors Hill, and adjoining Roose’s Busn, was brought up at the last meeting oi the Borough Council by Cr J. Patterson, who claimed that the piece of land under consideration was the pick of the property. It wou! t be a pjity if the opportunity to buy it was lost. He thought that the Coernment should be approached with a ijiew of obtaining a subsidy oi a free grant. Papakura could get Government assistance, why not Pukekohe, he asked.
