TUAKAU TOWN BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Tuakau Town Board was held on Tuesday, when there were present: Messrs D. Fulton (chairman), W. J. Taylor, A. Medland, G. S. Lapwood, J. B. Sim, C. A petition signed by James Mungali and eight others, requested the Boai’d! to continue laying scoria on Jellicoe Avenue to the end of their dwellings.—The chairman said) that the Board had decided to spend £4O on the road, and up to the present £36 had been spent. It was true the road wanted attention, but there were other roads in a wo rise position, for instance, the road to the school, which wanted doing, and which would have to be done with the assistance of the public. At the, present time the Board could not its way clear to expend anything further except the £4, which would biting the cost up to the amount promised. Mr Medland said that at present the scoria was about I*4 chains short of the Board’s estimate of the distance intended,. He was well satisfied with the work. It had made a splendid road of it. Mr Sim endorsed Mr Mediand’s remarks.
Mr Lapwood moved that whenever the foreman had no important work to do he be employed carting scoria on to Jellicoe Avenue. Mr Taylor seconded.
Mr Finch moved as an amendment that as soon as the £4O is expended the work cease. Seconded by Mr Sim. The latter stated that the amount allowed was very liberal! indeed, in view of the fact that there were other important works just as urgent as Jellicoe Avenue.
The chairman said the Finance Committee met and made recommendations to the Board. They considered the finances of the Board very fully, and after careful consideration made certain recommendations, which were adopted. On top of this, it was moved/ and seconded that the amount allocated be exceeded. What was the use of a Finance Committee considering and making recommendations ? be asked.
Mr ArrOwsmith said that he sympathised with the petitioners, but the Board’s finances were not very flush, and they could not afford to exceed their estimate and .spend more this year. Next year they may be able to expend more on the'road. On being put the amendment was carried, Mr Lapvvood dissenting. Ten Per Cent, on £12,000 Loan.
