PAPATOETOE TOWN BOARD

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The Papatoetoe Town Board held its fortnightly meeting last Tuesday, Mr Arthur W. Hall presiding. There were also present Messrs J. Death, A. V. Timeweli, J Watson, anci the clierk (Mr H. C. Ernest). Foreman’s Report. The foreman’s report stalled tuat the scoria on *the new formation in Wyllie Road had been rolled, and the road into the section adjoining £he public hall had been metailed. The drain through Mr A. Rutley’s section had been cleaned out and pipes put in. The workmen had finished the Carrrjth Road, and the Great South Road footpaths Deadly for tar. anci shell, and a rollter had been made for the footpaths. Portable Tar-boiler. Estimates for a portable . tarboiler of 40 gallons were submitted, and it was stated that the addition of a semi-rojtary spraying nozzle cculd be added at a cost of £lO 10s,, making a total cost of more than £SO The cost was considered too high at present. Letter Delivery. The local postmaster wrote inforoming the Board that an effort would be made jto gain half an hour in the delivery of mails. The arrival of new , rsidents and the increasing number of dwellings matde the postman’s calls more numerous. Hospital Board Levy. The Auckland Hospital Board wrote drtwing the attention of the Boerd to Sts obligations in respect of the ptyment of the hospital levies, which became due on July Iqt last. At the present time the amount outstanding was £76 Is 6cl, and a further quarter y instalment would be due on December ls|t. Grading Station Road. An estimate for a grading contract on Station Road was supplied by the consulting engineer, the amount being £250. The only tender received was £270 and the contractor asked that the' jtime for completing the work be extended (to February 28th, 1922. Mulycock’s Road. Regarding Mulcock’s Road,, the consulting engineer hajd l again inspected this, and! it being practically impossible to obtain he metal chips, which he intended to use, he had communicated with the gaol and the quarry foreman told him that he could, have about 150 cubic yards of quarry waste before Christmas. As this would be preferable, according to the opinion of the engineer, the scoria blinding* especially on the heavy grade where 1 the pounding action of the horses feet would be heavy. he 11 tho "» ht , Hf Board would be well ajdvised to use this waste, otherwise m.i oi McLaughlin’s scoria well rolled in could be used. Sunday Train Service.

The relieving dstrict traffic iuan-ao-er at Auckland wrote stating that the desired extension of the present Sunday suburban train services could not be granted.

Sanitation.
