J C. Williamsons recent comic opera success, “The Lilac Domino,” will be staged at the Premier Hall, Pukekche, on Monday December oth, for one night only. Of this opera, the Auckand Herald of Saturday morn- , ing, November 26th. says “It is not surprising that “The Liilac Domino had a run of three years in London. Playgoers will welfcome in it, a return to the higher standard which precepted the era of flrivolous ragtime tunes allied with farcial librettos which were largely the outcome of post-war hysteria. They will note in *this work, moreover, improvements on the higher standard referred to. ‘•The Lilac Domino” is replete with surprises. Opening scenes of revelry and inconsequential, albeit clever, humour, Bead skilfully up to a climax in ithe second act, which develops into dramatic opei*a of a high-class,, both as regards music* and situation. The whole score is made of haunting melodies, the music has a lifting effect, n and much of it is operatic. A duet N-just before the finale in the second Pact is a gem. The comedy is wed ' constructed, w*th a strong dramatic mtoiftso that the laughter it provokes is alternated with the serious Interest it COM*.” The opera will be staged under the management of D.‘ O'iConnor, and box plans are available at the Rookery, where seats m av be reserved without exti a charge.
