POWER AND WATER.

ANOTHER PUMPING PLANT. h AUTHORISED BY BOROUGH COUNCIL. . t The trouble at the power house* caused by the bfieakdfcwn of the main engine some weeks ago, was ventilated 1 at some length at the ordinaiiy meeting of the Pukekohe Borough Council last Monday evening. The engineer (Mr Wyatt) (reported that the strain on the existing engine was such that it could hardly keep up with the dual task of pumping water and! generating current. He .- •recommended, therefore, that the the Council erect a light shed at Hickey’s dam and install an oil en- , engine and pump to keep up tlie ' water supply. When the new power house plant was put down an electric motor would be erected in this shed to drive the pump. To do this \ meant the extending of the six inch mains a certain distance to connect with the proposed pumping station.. He estimated the entire cost at £I3OU. This installation would vastly relieve the position at the power house and enable the supply of current to be better maintained. The Council authorised the erection, of the new pumping station with scarcely any preliminary discussion. The engineer also reported That the new plant for the power house had been cabled for by the contractors. This should arrive in February 1 or March, and by winter time the Borough should be in receipt Of ample* powed .and light.
