RATING IN PUKEKOHE.
Truly this is a town cf anomalies. We have instances cropping up every day, and here is the latest. A man builds a house on a section of equal value and size to his neighbour, who built his ten years aga The modern house is penalised by having to pay mare in rates than the' house of equal size and selling value which was built ten years ago. Instances of this have been brought under our notice repeatedly, and enquiries elicit the information that some day the Bo sough will be re-valued and everything brought to the right footing. But will the Council give a refund to the man who is now paying £lO per annum on a new house and charge up the loss incurred to the Borough to the man who is only paying about half on the older place* Whilst this atrocious anomaly exists there is no inducement for anyone to build a house in this Borough. Tuakau has recently been re-valued, and yet Pukekohe has to wait while the unfair distribution of rates still goes on. Surely it is time a Ratepayers’ Association -was formed in Pukekohe to safeguard the interests of those who provide the BoVough with its means of carrying on .
