The Times Published on Tuesday and Friday Afternoons.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 1921. WATER.

Owners of cattle on the Pukekohe Hill are in serious difficulties regarding supplies of water for drinking. It appears that though promises have been made 'to the residents in that part of the Borough for the past fifteen months, nothing has yet been done, and the outlook is regarded: as very bad by those owning catitle up on |the hill. A deputation of those concerned will wait upon the Borough Council at an early date and pint the position before the City Fathers wijth the hope that the sitution will) be relieved. That is one phase of the water question. An_ either phase, even more serious, is the risk the Borough is running through being dependent on one engine at jthe powetf house for pumping purposes. Another breakdown or two and the town will be without this vital necessity. A fire would mean that nqthing could be done but let the (town burn, and the Fire Brigade would not be needed. Surely there is no other Borough in the Dominion taking such risks as Pukekohe is at present. To keep on hoping for February and the new plant is all very well* but the element of serious risk is ever present. February is some distance off, and water and light and power are needed just as much now as they will be ‘then, and the question is will the Council ask the public to take the risk involved, or will they face the position in a businesslike manner and provide auxiliary power at once. The ratepayers are becoming really alarmed and anxious with the dry weather coming on, and it is the Council’s duity to alleviate their fears now.

“We nothing extenuate, nor aught set down in malice.”
