DISTRICT NEWS.

TUAKAU. The tennis courts are very popular this season, and on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons it is almost impossible to get a game. A tournament is now being started, and the drawings have been made. Although the membership fee is high, it does not seem to deter enthusiasts, experienced or otherwise, from joining the club, and it may shortly be necessary to consider putting down another court to accommodate the players. The local sawmill has grown tomost respeqtable dimensions, and is now an established industry. It began with a steam tractor, a goose saw and some pinus insignis logs. Now a big staff is employed, a large building has been erected to bouse the. plant that i,t was necessary to progressively acquire, and another (tractor has been put especially on to hauling the logs. All classes of timber, flooring, etc., can be turned out now, as'an up-»to-date planing machine has been installed. This is another step forward for Tuakau. Electricity so much desired by everyone, was the subject of some local A very progressive resident, who has a never-failing watey fall, went so far as to get an estimate of the cost of plant for generating the electricity and supplying it to consumers. would! be a boon to the district if this scheme came to pass, for in the event of priwer coming to Tuakau before the Xiresent generation is no more, the whole of the reticulation system would be there ready to switch the power irfto, and the local generating plant would be a great standby during interruptions in the Government supply. . ,^ The concert to-morrow night in aid of the Presbyterian Church funds, promises to be an imniense success, and there should not be standing room in the hall if the other denominations return a little of the suppost given them by this church.
