GARDEN COMPETITIONS* (Contributed). The Planting Committee has now arranged re the garden competition, which will be conducted as follows: Three prizes of £5, £3, and £l. will b 9 given to the householders who have <■ the best-kept gardens; judged on a basis of utility and beauty. Twt> inspections will be made by the mittee;, one before Christmas and otther in the autumn, and the winners:' will be declared after the second inspection. The judge’s decision is to be final, and (the entrance fee is 2s 6<£ per household. In Southern districts these competitions are keenly contested, and onceyou get your garden going it is wonderful how interesting the work .becomes. Entrance fees must be in the hands of the Society as soon as possible (latest date will be fixed next week); and may be paid to. Mr Mason (chairman Planting Committee), Mr Waters (vice-president), Mr H. H. Pattle (president), who are authorised to issue receipts upon the Societies’' printed forms! Now, we want Pukekohe to take its place with other progressive towns of New Zealand, and we want to see every garden lover represented in this competition. We also w4li be pleased to receive notes of interest on gardening, so that same majr be published in our columns each Dr Wake has kindly donated £3 towards the prize, and any other donations forthcoming will he acceptable to the Society, in its endeavour to get these competitions going; Sodo not delay.
