MANUKAU COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meejting of the Manukau County Council was held on Tuesday, when there were present: Crs S. W. House), S. A. Browne, F, M. Waters, A. E. Hattaw;#y, J. M. Davies,, F. Grainger, the Clerk (Mr E. Ashcroft) and the Engineer (Mr W. J. Lopdell). An apology for absence was received from the chairman (C c A. D. Bell) who is indisposed, and Cr F. M. Waters was voted to the chair. The Auckland Branch of (the Navy League asked the Council to assist in encouraging the celebration of “Nelson Day,” (October 21st) to stimulate public interest in the British Navy,—Received. Mr G- A. Powdrell, Mangere, complained of the long delay in making an approach to his property on PCgler’s Road. He asked if the Council could see its way to improve; the water supply to his property.—Referred to Riding member and engineer ito deal with. The Council’s attention was drawn to the dangerous state of the culvert at the southern end of Robertson Road, Mangere.—Referred to Riding member and the engineer to look into.
Mr T. F. Reeve wrote stating that owing to a cutting of three or four feet on the Alfriston RcSad he had been deprived! of an entrance to his property, and he requested the Council ito construct two culveyts to give him access, —Left to Riding member to attend to.
The Takanini Welfare League wrote stating that at a recent meeting of the League a resolution was passed urging the County Council to tMcb'"' immediajte steps to have the roads of the district put in a thorough stiate of repair.—Received. Mr J. Franklin, Papatoetoe, urged upon the Council to complete (the work on the newly-formed part of Otara Road leading to his property, Dilworth Estate.—Received.
The ranger (Mr J. P, Brown) reported having impounded 170 head of cattle, including 50 from Mangere Riding, and collected fees amounting to £lO 2s, during October.—The report was 'received', The Papatoetoe Town Board stated that they had an opportunity of acquiring a property for use as a sanitary .depot. The land was situated at the back of Lot 10, Manurewa Parish, and fronting the Great South Road, They desired to know if the Council would raise any objection to the proposed sanitary site.-r-As Councillors were not quite conversant with the locality, the Chairman, Riding member and Engineer were instructed jto inspect and report.
The Clevedon branch of the Farmers’ Union forwarded copies of resolutions passed at their recent meeting, to the effect that the Council be .requested to put the South Road from Papakura to Manurewa in order at the earliest possible moment. They also urge upon/the Council the necessity of metalling the ArdmoreAlfriston Road.—Referred to the engineer and Riding member. The District Engineer, : Public Works Department, wrqfte in reply to the County engineer’s application for a £IOOO subsidy for metalling the Moumoukai Hill Road; stating that as the metalling items in the present estimates are as much as the County equipment will be able to overtake in a year, he could not see the use of inserting another metalling item. He stated that he quite agrees that the petition is a reasonable one, but does not consider the work of sufficient urgency to give (|t a place on this year’s programme, and recommends that it be brought up again at the end of the financial year.—Received. Cr House urged that representations be made to the Railway Department to erect a ladies’ waitingroom at Mangere station, also the construction of a the station.
