PRECAUTIONS AGAINST EPIDEMICS.
HEALTH DEPARTMENT ACTIVE. The Medical Officer of Health, at Auckland, is evidently a strong advocate of the proverb “that prevention is better than cure,” and" adopts the “foresight is the weapon of the wise” policy as far as a possible outbreak of any epidemic is concerned. At Tuesday’s meeting of the Manukau County Council, the Otahuhu Borough Council wrote stating that the Medical Officer of Health l£ad requested them to constitute a cofiamittee to deal any epidemics which may arise in the Borough, and at the Mangere crossing end of the Mangere RidSng, and also portion of the Mt. Wellington Road •. District', They suggested that the following comprise the committee The Otahuhu Borough Council, member for Mangere Riding of the Manukau County Council, the chairman of the Mt. Wellington Road Board, member of the Hospital Board for the district. and the three doctors resident ac Qtahuhu.—The chairman pointed out that the proposal was to guard against a possible outbreak of an epidemic. The committee to be set up would act with the Health Department in actions to combat the malady.—The matter received the support of the Council.
