COMPARISON OF PRICES.
Occasionally outcry is .made in New Zealand about the prices of meat. What would Dominionites say if they had. to pay the prices now current in Edinburgh? The last mail brought to Dunedin a leter from Mr Tait, who used to manage one of Barton arid Trengrove’s shops, and is now in Edinburgh to take over his father’s butchery there. He sends the list of the prices that obtained there at the end of July. To these prices are here added, for comparison, the Dunedin prices, and this is how r the matter worked out: — Rump steak, 2/10 in Edinburgh, lid in Dunedin ; top-side steak, 2/2 and 8d ; stewing steak, 2/- and 7d ; fillet steak, 2/10 and 1/-; sirloin, 2/4 and 9d ; sausage, 1/2 and 6d; rib roasts, 2/2 and THd ; shins, 1/10 and 3%d ; mince, 2/- and 6d ; dripping, lOd and 6d ; boiling beef, 1/4 to 1/10 in Edinburgh, s!ad here; salt beef (with the bone) 1/10 and scl; legs" of mutton, 2/4 and 6 1 2 d ; loins, 2/8 and 6d ; shoulders, 2/4 and 5%cT ; necks and breasts, 2/- and 4d; chops, 2/8 and 6d. Other goods are also 'mentioned such as bacon 3/-, eggs *3/3, rabbits 2/- each.—, Exchange.
