BUCKLAND.

DANCE AND WALTZING COMPETITION. .

The local returned soldiers held a most enjoyable and successful ■ cance in the Buckland Hall on Friday last. Owing to the continued dry weather and consequent good roads,, the accommodation was - severely taxeci, but notwithstanding, one and aU voted the evening a huge success. The j.ioor was in first-class erder, and the music supplied by Miss Geragbty and Mr Deed was of its uspal good quality. Extras were supplied by Miss Appleby and Mr Sorell, the latter also contributing a much appreciated song. Mr Gea. McPherson, assisted by Mr Leyy, carried out the duties of M.C.’s in an efficient manner. During the evening" a waltzing competition was held, both classes, local and. open, being eagerly contested. Mr S. Connelly, of Tuakau, acted in the capacity of judge, and gave entire satisfaction. Mr W. Leighton and Mrs L. Bilkey were the successful couple in iocal class, and Mr Clews (Pukekohe) •'and Mrs G. McPherson (Buckland): carried off the honours in the tpen class. An enjoyable supper was handed round,after which Mr G. McPherson presented the prizes to the successful contestants in the competitions. The c-nergetic secretaries (Messrs H. S. Leighton and G. McPherson) are to be complimented on the success of the evening, which was due to their untiring efforts to ensure a pleasant time for one and all. Truly our returned boys do not do * 'things by halves.
