DISTRICT NEWS.

OWEWHEFtO. | t* The Raglan County Council engineers have been staying with Councillor Riley-Tpylor, and during thenvisit have made an exhaustive _m-, spection of various localities, with a view of finding a better road from Onewhero to Tu-akau. This, after a lot .of work, has been done, and although road-making through the country selected would be costly, still it would be well worth undertaking, as in no part would the grade be more . than one in fifteen. A great improvement on the present road, as that, in parts, is ong in nine, or even worse than that. Several local gentlemen took great interest in the work, Messrs Dyer, Attewell, Andrews and Councillor Riley-Taylgr am nogs t others. At a meeting of the local Tennis Club on Monday evening, it was decided that the .president (Mr T. Scoble Cornish) and Messrs A. Alien, Glasgow, Henderson and McKibbon, should wait on the Domain Hoard with a view of acquiring a site for tennis courts, croquet lawn and bowlina green on the Domain. Mr C. Walters has kindly consented to introduce the deputation. The Domain Board will also 'receive a deputation for- a site for the erection of f. hall on the Domain. One really good hall .is greatly needed in district, and it is to ®be hoped the new; site will be satisfactory Ito -all parties. A dance is to be held, in the Lower Hall in aid of the local Football Club, and I understand the club intends to arrange a big ball shortly, which will undoubtedly be a great success. „ , , i Mr Floyd, headmaster of the local school, has had a nasty bout of laryngitis‘ and influenza,'but he has now quite recovered. A largely increased output is anticipated at the local creamery, as several farmers who have hitherto confined their attention to sheep, are intending to milk cows this' season. Butter-fat is about the only product that is at present fetching a good price, though Mr Massey's optimistic views on the wool question make pleasant reading. Mr Williams, who has recently been so seriously ill with bronchial pneumonia, is about again, and will soon be well enough to Itake up Ins usual work.
