PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD.
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The Papakura Twon Board met on Monday, when there were present: Messrs S'. Evans (chairman), Jas. Beams, T. D. Campbell, P. J. Parker, D. Weir, and the clerk (Mr A. L. Cooper). Apologies' for absence were received from Messrs E. D. McLennan and J. R. Wilson. Waterworks IVleJa to Cease Work. The Board’s engineers, Messrs Lockie, Gannon and Worley, reported that they had given instructions to the foreman to give the men notice of ceasing of the work. They anticipated that the works would be closed down by Tuesday as all the reticulation authorised would be completed by then. The sluice valve of the dam had now been completed.— The report was received. It was pointed out that it was found necessary to dispense with the services of the men engaged on the waterworks because* there was.no work to do, on account of pipes on order not coming to hand. This is regrettable, as rapid progress was being made with the reticulation of the district. Road Closed. The district engineer of the New Zealand railways wrote stating that in connection with the construction of the road overbridge at Onslow Road, operations would be considerably simplified if arrangements could be made to temporarily close the read. He understood the traffic over the crossing was not heavy and that no great inconvenience would be caused if the road was closed for a short period.'—The request was granted on the motion of Messrs . Evans and Beams. Board a Licensing Authority. The Department of Internal Affairs advised that the Town Board had been appointed a licensing authority under the Explosive and Dangerous Goods Amendment Act, 1920, —Received. Scoria for Paths. The clerk was instructed to order a quantity of fine scoria for the footpaths. It was decided to request the Papakura Football Club to remove :i wire fence at present on the railway reserve. It was pointed out that the fence was dangerous to pedestrians crossing the reserve at night. Permission was granted to re-erect it for football matches. Averiii Street. Mr Jos. Rea waited on the Board and urged that Averill Street be opened for traffic.—lt was pointed out that nothing could be- done until the railway works in the vicinity were completed.
