OBITUARY.
IVIfSS. JANE STRONG. The death occurred at the residence of her son. Mr. W. A. Strong, Drury, on Sunday last of Mrs. Jane Strong, a well known and highly respected resident, in her 82nd year. Deceased was born in County Antrim, Ireland, on October 3, 1839, and came to New Zealand in the ship Baron Aberdare with her husband, the late Mr Robert Strong, and family, 46 years ago and they took up their residence in Auckland, where they resided for upwards of 30 years. The late Mr and Mrs Strong were engaged in the grocery trade for many years in the nortnern city. Deceased’s husband predeceased her just eleven years ago. Her illness extended over a year the last eight months of which she was confined to her bed. The .late Mrs. Strong was closely interested in church affairs and for many years was an esteemed member of the Drury Presbyterian Church. In her church life she made numerous friends and when news of her death was circulated quite a gloom was cast over the neighbourhood. Out of a family of eightthree sons, Messrs W. A. Strong (Drury), J. Strong and D., Strong (Sydney), one daughter, Mrs M. Kennedy (Otorohanga) and two stepdaughters, Mrs A. Neil (Ponsonby) and Mrs Lane (Jarrow on Tyne, England)—survive her. She also leaves 12 grandchildren and one great-grand-child, to mourn their loss. ; The funeral, which was largely attended, took place at Drury Presbyterian Cemetery on Thursday last. The service at the graveside was conducted by Rev. Hales. Floral tributes were numerous, which signified the popularity of deceased, and the esteem in which she was held.
