MANUREWA WANTS ELECTRICITY.
- I . PROPOSED LOAM! OF £BOOO. With the object of having 1 the Town Board area reticulated for the installation of electric light, the Manurewa Town Board recently applied to the Acting-Minister of Finance for permission to raise a loan of £BOOO for the purpose. At Monday’s meeting of the Board a letter was received from the Minister stating that the application would have early consideration. Mr C. H. Ly.pton gave a brief re- » port on the formation of the OnePower Board. He stated that shortly a Bill would be introduced in the. ■ House of Representatives by the Minister of Public Works, Hon. J. G. Ccates, to enable the Board to obtain a loan of £500,000 for the reticulation of the whole district. Each . local body could then borrow from | the Power Board sufficient to reticuj late its own area. He did not know | how the Town Board stood regarding | the loamof £BOOO it was endeavouring j to raise until the Bill was submitted . j to' Parliament. However Mr M. King moved: That with a view to anticipating i.he ad- | vent of electrical power through the : central Power Board, the Manurewa i Town Board take the initial steps to- ! j wards raising a loan to carry out ro- ! tidilation at once, and that a letter j be sent to Mr J. Park, of the Power j' Board, asking his support to the proposal when the matter was consi ler- ■ ed by the Minister in charge. ’ Mr Cox seconded and the motion was carried.
