MISSION BUSH ROAD.

REPORT OF SUB-COWfIIITTEE. At the July meeting of the Franklin County Council a deputation from the Waiuku Riding Ratepayers’ Association, consisting of Messrs Whitham and Williams, waited on the Council regarding the Mission Bush Road, and a sub-committee of the Council, the chairman (Cr. W. Claud Motion) and Crs. H. O. Mellsop, E. Cuff, R. T. Reid and the engineer were instructed to inspect and report on the matter. At Thursday’s meeting of the Council the folowing report, signed by the chairman, was received:— On August 6, in company with Crs. Mellsop, Cuff and the engineer, we inspected the branch road leading off Mission Bush Road, which was the subject of comment by a deputation that waited on the Council at its last meeting. We were met 'by the deputation and went over the road: (1) The length of the road recently formed is 40 chains and the total length of the road is 53 chains; (2) There are seven property owners with a frontage on this road: (3) The formation is of a very light nature ahd still requires a little more work done to take off water out of the low places. One small cuttingtakes the water from a hollow on the read and the adjoining property in wet weather would be a pond, covering about one acre of land. The water is taken from this hollow along the road through some pipes across the road and then taken through Mr R. T. Reid’s property. It is in this hollow that the surplus earth from the cutting has been placed. This work was done by the countj teams under the instruction of the engineer and I see nothing to take exception to; (4) My idea is that the deputation should have asked the Council to do something oh the road leading to Mr Whitham’s and Mr Williams properties, so that the unexpended amount of subsidy could be spent in metal, when available. —(Signed) W. Claud Motion (chairman).

The report was received and it was decided to forward a copy of the report to the deputation.
