PROPOSED POWER BOARD.
FOR FRANKLIN POWER DISTRICT ELECTRICITY BADLY WANTED. CONFERENCE TO BE HELD. At Thursday’s meeting of the Franklin County Council, the Tuakau Town Board requested the Council to consider the question of constituting a Power Board for the suggested Franklin Power District, in order to enable the people to derive advantage from the Government hydro-electric power schemes. The Board suggested the convention of a meeting at the earliest possible date and that representatives be invited from the Papakura Town Board, the Pukekawa, Onewhero and Port Waikato ridings of the Raglan County, the Whangamarino 'Road Board ancl all other local bodies included in the suggested power district. It is obvious that until such a Power Board was formed and the district reticulated, no power can be supplied by the Government, and unless steps were taken in the near future, the district would lose all opportunity of being supplied from Horahora and would have to wait a matter of If* years until the Arapuni supply becomes available. This would op disastrous for the district, The Tuakau Town Board thought that the time is ripe for taking energetic measures to ensure the formation of a j3 oW er Board. The Board pointed out that the Council was being asked to call the meeting, as being not only ihe parent body, but the largest and most influential of the local bodies interested. They were, of course, aware that a concession had been granted to a company at Waiuku for supplying power over a portion of th a County, and also that there was a municipal supply at Pukekohe, but these districts were only a small portion of the total districts to be served by the proposed Power Board. The chairman said tire matter was of great importance to the district, as power would soon be available from the Government schemes, and j they should avail themselves of the opportunity. He moved that the County Chairman be instructed to ■ convene a meeting at an early date, Us suggested by the Town Board, i o Reid seconded, and stated that ! although the Council had granted | concessions to a Waiuku Company. | the Council could at any time take the company’s interests over. ; Ci Lowry considered a Bower Board 'should be formed at r.n ©au> date. | Cr Cuff also Favoured ’ tho conven- ' tioa of a meeting to consider the matter. j The motion was carrier unami mcuob'.
