IMPROVED RAILWAY FACILITIES.

WANTED AT KARAKA STATION. NO RAILWAY STATION AT PRESENT. With reference to representations made by the Council regarding the provision of improved railway facilities at Karaka station, the General Manager of N.Z. Railways, Mr R. W. McVilly, wrote stating at Thursday’s meeting of the Franklin County Council, that on account of heavy expenditure involved the department could not consider the erection of a station at the present time. The cost of a subway alone, which would be over £2OOO, would, of course, require to be borne by the County ‘Council. —The letter was received, no action to be. taken at present.
