RETURNED SOLDIERS’ BALL.
(To the Editor.) • Sir, —-Would you be good enough to allow me space in your paper .to correct a misconception that is going the rounds of Onewhero, Because the “returned soldiers” have done me the honour to ask me to take the position of secretary for the Ball Committee,, I am supposed to be posing' as a “returned soldier” myself. Let me at once admit that I am one of the men who “stayed at home.” The fact that I enlisted three times and was over military age, may be considered some slight extenuation of rnj having done so. But the JiigTf opinion I have of our boys who braved the dangers of France, Egypt and Gallipoli, makes me the mere determined that I will not strut in “borrowed plumes.” I may further mention that I have no vote on matters brought before my committee, my work is confined to carrying out instructions aod making any suggestions that .may be the means of ensuring the success of their ball. Thanking you in anticipation.—l am, etc., ‘ T. SCOBLE CORNISH. '
