TUAKAU TOWN BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING The ordinary monthly meeting of the Tuakau Town Board was held on Tuesday when there were present:— Messrs Dynes Fulton (chairman), A Medland, G« Arrowsmith, Geo. Lapwoqd, J. B. Sim* W. J. Taylor, C. Finch, and the clerk (Mr A. H. Tapper).

Tuakau’s War Trophy.

The chairman of the Tuakau Domain Board (Mr H. McGuire) wrote stating that he had been in communication with the Minister for Derence re war trophy for Tuakau Domain. He stated that the uiophy was intended to be erected in the Domain and that' he had written to the chairman of the Town Board asking him to forward the war trophy on to the Domain Board.—The chairman said he had received a letter fiom the Minister of Defence, pointing out that the machine-gun sent to Tuakau was intended for the Tuakau Domain and asked that it be forwarded to the Domain Board. He added that when Mr Massey was in Tuakau prior to the last election he promised that he would do his best to get a war trophy for the Town Board. He understood Mr Massey made a similar promise to the\ Domain JBoard. At any rate the gun arrived, consigned to the chairman of the Tuakau Town Board. The correspondence had taken place since Mr Massey left for London and it. was quite fair that the matter was held over until Mr Massey returned to New Zealand. It was quite clear the weapon was for the Town Board.— Mr Fulton moved that the clerk write to the Minister .of Defence stating that as the Prime Minister was absent from New Zealand that the matter be held in abeyance until his return, as he had also promised a souvenii gun to the Town Board. It was also decided to point out that the Tuakau Domain was outside the Town Board area, in the Franklin County.r—Mr W. J. Taylor seconded and the motion was carried. Mr Lapwood stated the Domain Board was promised first, but the chaiannan stated that in the absence of Mr R. F. Bollard, the then member for the district, he, as chairman of the Town Board, introduced the deputations on the day. As the Town Board had several matters to put before Mr Massey, he let t-h,e other deputations enter first, whiie the Town Board was last. Both the Town and Domain Boards asked for machineguns, but he considered the Town Board was entitled to the one it had in its possession. This was how the Domain Board had first promise. Liverpool Street. A petition signed by Mr Jas. Mungall and seven others, requested the Board to attend to the Liverpool Street footpath and road leading to their properties.—lt was decided to reply stating* the Board would endeavour to put the street in a better condition.

Sinking Fund Administration.

The Public Trustee wrote stating that owing to the increasing volume of business with which the Public Trustee is called upon to deal, the Board had decided, after full consideration, to transfer the administration of local bodies’ sinking funds accounts to the branch offices controlling the districts in. which the local bdies were situated. It is confidently expected that the iesui> would be advantageous to the local bodies as well as to the Public Trust Office at Wellington. The administration of the sinking fund accounts of the Board had been delegated to. the Local Deputy Public Trustee. Auckland, as from June 30, 1921, and that all future correspondence in this connection is to be addressed to him. — Received. Bank Interest. The Secretary of the Treasury intimated that permission had been granted the Board to pay interest on its bank overdraft at a rate not exceeding 7 per cent.—Received. Licensing Account. The town Clerk, Pukekohe Borough Council, requested a cheque for £7 5s the amount due by the Board to the Franklin Licensing Committee. Deferred for further particulars. £so® Remitted. The Public Works Department intimated that it had forwarded £SOO to the Bank of New Zealand, at Pukekohe to be placed to the credit of the Board in respect to work done on George Street, Tuakau.—Received. Sanitary Affairs. The medical officer of health, Dr. T. J. Hughes, intimated that arrangements had been made as regards inspection of Tuakau saleyards. offensive trades, etc. Regulations were being drawn up by the Department of Health with regard to the above ancl would be available shortly. Received,

Application Refused, jr In reply to the Board's letter, thjifc secretary of the Treasury, Wellington, advised that circumstances had arisen which rendered it inadvisable to grant the application of the Board for permission to transfer loan moneys to the credit of the Board’s general account. The clerk was instructed to reply stating that tie Board had loan moneys which could be put against the bank overdraft and thus save the ratepayers’ money. It was also decided to ask why the request could not be acceded to. . Scoria. It was stated that there was a quantity of scoria on the old railway route and the clerk was instructed to write to the district engineer of railways asking if same was for" sale and at what price the Board could acquire it. • • •-
