LOCAL AND GENERAL.
On Sunday evening Rev. S- Nixon will deliver the third of his series of addresses. The subject for next Sunday night will be “Socialism.”
The usual Saturday night daace under the auspices of the Lodge Excelsior has been postponed this week, but the usual series will be held next week.
A. meeting of pedigree cow breeders will ibe held in the A. and P. rooms on Saturday, July 9, at i p.m., to arrange matters in connection with the forthcoming milking shorthorn and other breeds’ pedigree sale.
Under, the honorary instruction of Mr H. H. Pattle, classes will shortly be started in the Pukekohe Technical School for the teaching of drawing, including freehand, model and. perspective. In addition modelling and the principles of light and shade will also be taught. Those interested should read the advertisement in our columns to-day.
For failing to eradicate codlin moth from his orchard, H. McCormick, of Opaheke, was fined £1 and 7s costs at Papakura Court. The inspector. Mr W. Thompson, said defendant’s orchard had not been properly cultivated and therefore the work he had done was not a success. Defendant said it was difficult to control pests owing to the season. He had sprayed more than usual

At the last sitting of the Papakura Magistrate’s Court, A Burgess was fined £1 and 7s costs for allowing a horse to trespass on the railway lino at Papakura, It was pointed out that H the animal, which was killed by a ® train, -was a splendid one and waa valued at £BO. Owing to the paddock being left open the horse get out and strayed on to the railway line.
