PUKEKOHE V. WAfAU PA. The match between Pukekohe and Waiau Pa, on the latter’s grounds on Saturday last, resulted in a win for | the visitors by 3 goals to 0, As the two* teams have invariably drawn in all previous matches, the win was a popular one and should give added zest to the next match, Waiau (black and white) were first away with a fast forward rush which made things lively for the visitingbacks until a breach relieved the situation for the yellows. The free hit went out to Page who, with a fine piece of individual play, took the ball down to the white circle and passed out to Horne, who centred. Flavell secured, but slipped as he was taking' • the shot, which went wide. Keeping up a hot attack the yellows had Waiau penned in, Patterson clearing a good one to Hare, who just missed with a difficult shot, Waiau now gained the advantage, a fine run by • Deane giving a chance which was spoiled close in by a penalty stroke. Brown’s hit was weak but, following up, he recovered nicely and sent it out to Stuart, who made a determined rush down field for the net. Erratic passing gave it to Clark, who cleared well, but a breach stopped progress. A succession of breaches, with Harnish in the-lime-lisht, gave Pukekohe the advantage, but half-time sounded shortly, neither team aving scored. j
On resuming, the yellows got away, Hart and Stuart prominent, and a series of nice passes ended with a good centre from Munn on the left wing to Flavell, who made no mistake with his shot, opening the score for Pukekohe. Again forcing the issue the yellows attacked strongly and a useful one from Lynch in the halves gave it to Flavell who got in again, making the score 2—o,
From the bully the whites made a strong effort but were forced to. give ■way, a chance at goal being given to Stuart who, on account of the slippery ground, sat down instead. The yellows still had the best of it. and with. Salter and Brown in the hacks feeding consistently, had Waiau on the defensive again. Some good hockey followed, Stuart ending a fine movement by finding the net. The whistle blew shortly afterwards with the score at 3—o. Mr J. B. Steele, r£ Auckland, proved an effluent referee.
The Waiau Pa team bore out their reputation for hospitality by entertaining- the visitors right royally at a welcome and much appreciated tea.
