DISTRICT NEWS.
PAERATA. The almost defunct 'Social Committee renewed their operations on Saturday last by staging a euchre party in the goods’ shed. The response by the public of the district proved conclusively by their attendance that they fully appreciate the committee’s efforts in arranging these entertainments. After several exciting games, there were four ladies who had to play off for the final,, which was eventually won by Mr Adams, who, owing to the scarcity of ladies present, took part as a lady. The gentleman’s prize was won by Mr W. Schlaepfer, who was only defeated in one game during the evening. At the conclusion of the cards a very sumptuous supper, which was provided by the ladies present, was partaken of; and needless to say, present did full justice. Mr D. Jamieson (chairman) then presented- the prizes to the respective winners, and announced to all present that it was the committee’s intention, with the support of the public, to continue these entertainments once a month Duri"g the even'’-" mus'e-d it-, ms.. p'ayed by gramophone fwh’ch wen; kindly lent by Mr vV. Aide; ton (score tar v) were rendered. Mr Janve opreposed a vote of thanks, which was shown by hearty acclamation, to Mr Aiderton (secretary) and Mrs Alderton. for their Until mg efforts to make the evening a success, and a'so to the ladies present for prov iding ali the good things for supper. The evening was concluded about 11 pm by the singing of “Au!d| Lang Svne,'
