MARRIAGE AMENDMENT ACT
The following are briefly the amendments made to the M irringa Act by the above:-
Section 2 allows women to be ap pointed Registrars and Deputy Regis turns of Marriages.
Section 3 provides that on the issue of decree absolute for the dissolution of any marriage solemnised in New Zealand, the Registrar-Generai is to record same of the marriage in his office, and advise the officiating minister or registrar to make a similar note on the relative entry in the marriage register book in his possession. Section 4 does away with the necessity for three days’ residence by both parties to a proposed marriage. The law as amended requires residence of three days by <ne par ty uni-' in the district where the marriage is to ire solemnised. It is advisable, however, that the notice be given and the certificates be obtained from the registrar of the district wherein the mar-. Viage is to be solemnised.
Section 5 makes the hours during fcr the transaction of public busiwhich marriage may be solemnised 8 a.nr. to 8 p.m. except in a registrar’soffice where they may be solemnised at any time while the office is open for the transaction of public business. Section 6 includes “Jhe Salvation Army” in the list of religious bodies in the Third Schedule of the Marriage Act. Section 7 makes it an offence to deny or impugn the validity of a lawful marriage.
