FRANKLIN COUNTY COUNCIL.
LAST SWEETING. At the last meeting of the Franklin County Council there were present: Crs. W. Claud Motion (chairman), R. T. Reed, T>. W. Woods, E. C. Cuff, B. Charles, J. Dean, G. W. Heald, J. P. Lawry, Hy;. Wilcox H. O. Mellsop, the clerk (Mr Alan P. Day), and the engineer (Mr J.- F. McArhur) t. iWercer Quarry. The engineer was instructed to furnish a full report and estimates of cost of properly equipping this quarry on the lines suggested in his report, The engineer and Cr. Dean were instructed to arrange for deleting a span in the Manugatawhiri Bridge on Great South Road, to allow- a dredge now in the creek to come out. The Aka Aka Drainage Board asked the Council to meet Mr Hull with reference to placing the culvert at Mr H. FlaveU’s by a small bridge.— Cr Reed and the engineer were appointed to deal with the matter. government Grants and Subsidies. Correspondence was read from the Public Works Department relating to the expenditure, of grants and subsidies and the decision of the Minister to cancel all balances of authorities held for which no commitments were made.
The chairman, clerk and engineer are to interview the district engineer of the Public Works Department on the subject, with a view to arranging for the expedinture of subsidies where loan moneys are available. The Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board gave notice of a levy on the county of 3-10ths of a penny in. the £ on the capital value at March 3!, 1921, of £3,833,824. The amount of the levy on the county amounts to £1792, —-Received.
Mr G. T. Howe, Manukau Heads, requested permission to construct a drain on a road near his property. Permission was granted subject to the work being done to the satisfaction of the engineer. Mr J. G. Haddow wrote asking to know when the work on Slack’s Road, Papakura, is likely to be done., —Left to tthe engineer and Cr Lowrv to attend to.
Mr €. Horne, Paparata, wrote with relerence to cleaning out of watercourse on property below bis place at Paparata Valley.— lt was decided to reply stating the matter had been attended to.
Mr C-. P. Viggers, Hunua, drew the Council’s attention to the outlet from his property on the main Hunua to Fspanui Roads at Richard Bros.’ pro-perty.—-Left with riding member and engineer to deal v.fith as soon as funds are available.
Mr H. E. R. L. Wily, Mauku, applied for permission to erect a swinggate across the road leading through his property at Mauku, notice of intention to apply having been advertised as required.—Mr G. L. J. Wilson, , Mauku, agreed to the application.—Permission was granted in accordance with the Public Works Act.
Messrs 9. E. and A. C. Baigent, Patumahoe, applied for permission to construct tram line on the mill side of the main road for 15 chains. —Left in the hands of the engineer and riding member to deal with. Mr G. Large, Waihi, requested access road to his land at Maungatawhiri Parish. —Engineer and riding member to report.
Mr Robt. Fulton, Puni, drew the Council’s attention to the trees overhanging and shading the road opposite Puni store causing the road to be wet in winter time. —Engineer and member to deal with it. Mr W. J, A. Moore, Pukekohe, stated he was agreeable to Mr H, A. Belchamber being granted the use of unopened road, lying between propertites owned by Messrs Belchamber and Moore on Pukekohe Hill. — Received. It was decided to give Mr Belchamber the use of the road. The Public Trust Office advised of remittances as follows:—Refund of interest charged to machinery loan £l9 11s 3d and balance of Stewart, Cowan and Heald’s Road loan £735 19s lid.—Received.
The district engineer of the Public Works Department forwarded certificates for £616 7s 2d, balance due to Council on amount promised for Pratt's Hill deviation formation and metalling.—Recived.
