EAST STREET BRIDGE.
BOROUGH COUNCIL opinion. At the last meeting of the Pukslcohe Borough Council, the Mayor (Mr '£.• Routly) reported that he had inspected the East Street overhead bridge and considered the question of widening. In his opinion, if it were widened obliquely towards King Street* jt would carry the traffic for a considerable time. This was the more important because a letter received from Mr Massey prior to his departure for England was to the effect that no new bridge would be undertaken. Cr. Patterson urged the Council to hold out for a new bridge from the foot of King Street. Finally it was decided to. write asking for the department’s plans of the work and to submit the Mayor’s ideas to the department. Cr. Patterson complained that this idea was merely a matter of botching. The proposal to send a deputation to the district engineer on the subject was carried, with Cr. Patterson dissenting.
