PAPAKURA CASEIN FACTORY

THE DHAIMA6E QUESTION. Another complaint was made at last, Monday’s meeting of the Papakura Town Board by fir J. Blains concerning the drainage at the Casein Mactoryd He stated that the drain at the back of the factory was in a bad -condition. It was evident that the authorities were turning matter into the drain, and at the same time were, praying for a heavy downpour, to wash it away. Sediment of an offensive nature was lying in the drain about a foot thick. In his opinion the drain should be blocked up.

Mr E. D # McLennan said that a contract had bedn let to treat the refuse in a scientific way with, chemicals, and it was guaranteed that nothing of an offensive nature would leave the cistern. The contract was let under the “no success, no pay” method.

Finally it was decided to again write Mr J. G. Ward (factory ?nanager at Pukekohe) drawing his attention to the matter, with a request that the drain be blocked up as promised by him. A “Times” reporter, .who was in Papakura on Monday, questioned Mr S. Cole, the original mover in the matter, about the nuisance. Mr Cole mentioned that as far as he was concerned the drainage was quite satisfactory. He had inspected the drain on Sunday, May 15, and found a trifle of a smell near the outlet, which, in his opinion, was unavoidable under any circumstances. “The position is entirely satisfactory at present as far as I am concerned,” concluded Mr Cole.
