FRIDAY, APRIL 29, 1921. THE BOROUGH ELECTIONS.

The Municipal elections are over, and the Borough is, we think, to be congratulated upon the results. A strong Mayor and a capable Council appear to have been returned, and the forthcoming two years should show results. The Roose’s Bush loan has been carried, and thus this charming piece of native bush will be preserved for all time to be a thing of beauty and a joy for ever. The future of Pifkekohe can be determined a great deal by the actions of its local administration—the Borough Council. Though a great deal of new work cannot, perhaps, be undertaken on accunt of the present stringency of the money market, yet a great deal of preparatory work can be done, and the present works improved. It is imperative that the extension of electric lighting be undertaken quickly. We have in mind several houses which are already fitted up with wires and globes but have been waiting for over three months for connection with the suppi;,. The more regular sweeping of King Street needs consideration,. and some means devised is keep cattle off the footpaths in Fast Street, v.here the Borough workmen have just completed tarring and sanding, and which is already cut about by mobs of cal tie. A tiswn rest-room for Indies is not a luxury ; it is a busi-”'-ss necessity, and no doubt the fai mine community would contribute to its cost, as 1 lie farmers did in Cambridge. All these things will, of course, have to be considered on their merits, but v.v feel that under the nevlv'iw eted administration rftteateu'erv orr- T.r.kincr for results.

“We nothing extenuate, nor aught set down in malice.”
