At yesterday’s meeting of the Franklin County Council letters were received from the secretary of the Auckland Waterways Commission intimating the Commission would commence its inquiries as soon as possible after the session of Parliament was concluded. The clerk reported that the Commission commenced its sittings at Auckland on Monday. He had written to Mr H. E. R. L Wily, by direction of the County chairman, asking him if he would act and give evidence on behalf of the Council. Mr Wily replied and signified his willingness to act on the County's behalf. Cr. A.s far as his riding was concerned the canal would greatly benefit it. The chairman. said that there was no reason why two delegates should not be appointed. The Council did not want to throw cold water on any scheme. On the motion of the chairman, Cr. Mellsop and Mr H. E. R. L.
